We’re on a mission to empower dogs and dog lovers to live adventurously with a new leash on sustainability. At Doggy Eco we make durable eco friendly dog toys and active dog gear affordable for all dogs to enable our customers to live sustainably with their pet. After all, choosing an eco friendly product should never be a compromise on cost or quality. We believe that the detrimental affects of pollution on our environment is one of the greatest tragedies of modern society and have made it our purpose to enable dogs to make a positive difference for climate change by designing sustainable dog products that utilise recycled or biodegradable materials to reduce our eco paw print.
The adventure begins
Becoming an eco friendly pet brand started with a personal passion for the environment. Taking our own dogs for beach adventures and hikes led to the realisation that a lot of the equipment we were using with our dogs was not eco friendly – it incorporated a lot of nylon, rubber and polyester. The process of producing these items uses a lot of fossil fuel and also has limited (if any) recycling capability which means that at the end of its life, these products would end up in landfill.
In Australia during 2018-2019 over 800,000 tonnes of leather, rubber and textiles were discarded with a recycling rate of just 7% (National Waste Report 2020).
There had to be a better way!
Doggy Eco was created to enable pet owners to live their sustainability values by designing and manufacturing dog toys and accessories with the environment in mind. All of our products are thoughtfully designed in Australia with consideration to their environmental impact over their entire life. This means that we don’t just consider how a product is manufactured, we look at how it can be recycled and disposed of at the end of it’s life to ensure that we are closing the loop on waste.
In 2020 Doggy Eco created the Eco Ball which is the first dog toy we have developed with a Circular Economy model. They are made from 100% New Zealand sheep wool that is hand felted into compact balls that are brightly coloured with toxic free dye. When the balls have finished their usefulness as a dog toy they can be returned to the earth as natural compost. The Eco Ball has been featured in Australian Dog Lover and was also recommended for an AA Environmental Possibility Award 2021.
In 2022 Doggy Eco’s co-founder, Leita Culpeper, was named as one of the “Top 30 Inspiring Women To Look Out For In 2022” in Entrepreneur’s Herald. This nomination was a direct result of the work and achievements she has accomplished through Doggy Eco as well as Doggy Hampers and Doggy Nourish.
Where to from here
Doggy Eco is continually evolving with the sustainability movement. We are always looking for opportunity to improve our practices and products in line with new sustainable textiles and manufacturing opportunities. We are currently partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects where 1 tree is planted for every purchase made through the Doggy Eco website and offset our carbon footprint through purchased packages.
If you have a textile you think would be a good fit for Doggy Eco or would like to engage in a partnering opportunity with Doggy Eco, send us an inquiry at email@example.com and we will respond as soon as possible.
